The Member Advisory Council (MAC) creates a space to share member values, needs and experiences to shape and improve the services we provide. This ensures we provide people of all backgrounds and all abilities receive the highest quality care.

Why did CHPW create a MAC? What is the purpose?

In our efforts to advance health equity and continue to integrate member voices into our programs and processes, CHPW has developed Member Advisory Councils (MACs), made up of our members.

CHPW believes that members are the best experts on what they need and that the opinions and experiences of our members are essential to creating the best health plan.

MACs are regionally based, to ensure representation of the communities we serve. From our MACs, we hope to learn what matters most to our members, what works well and what is challenging for them as they engage with CHPW.

Who makes up the MAC? Who can join?

Currently we have two MACs – in the Greater Columbia region which centers on our D-SNP population and King County, centering our Apple Health Members. Our MACs are made up of 15-20 members.

The advisory council will be made up of both new and experienced members of CHPW. Each council will center and reflect the unique and diverse backgrounds and lived experiences of our members. (For example: race/ethnicity, language gender, age, disability type, gender identity, sexual orientation…etc).

How are members selected?

Any member interested in joining a MAC will have an informational meeting with a member of CHPW’s MAC Team. The purpose of this meeting will be to give members an overview of the Advisory Council, what their role may look like, and answer any questions they may have.

It is also a chance for members to determine if an Advisory Council is a good fit for them.

Members can also be nominated by one of their providers (Doctors, Nurses, etc.)

What would be my role as a member of the Advisory Council?

• Agree to be a member of the Council for at least two to three years.
• Attend Council meetings regularly (communicate when attendance is not possible).
• Prepare for meetings, ask questions, and share your honest opinions.
• Be open to sharing your own experiences in the meetings.
• Partner with CHPW to find creative ways to understand the needs of other members.
• Offer ideas and make suggestions to solve problems raised during Council meetings.
• Develop and follow group agreements.
• Center and uplift community voices.
• Engage in other spaces to better understand the needs of members in the local community.

What is the time-commitment?

Members are expected to engage on the Council for up to 2 to 3 years.

The Member Advisory Council will meet quarterly in a fully accessible, ADA-compliant facility and virtually on Zoom for members that are unable to attend in-person meetings.

We truly value our member’s expertise, time and invaluable lived experience and will compensate them through the form of $50 gift cards per session attended!

We will utilize this page for all MAC updates – including Council members, meeting materials and agendas, and Council commitments/rules.
