Behavioral Health Advocates
A behavioral health advocate is a person with experience interacting with the behavioral health system who can help people seeking or receiving behavioral health services. This service is designed to resolve behavioral health systems issues quickly and at the lowest level possible.
The behavioral health advocate is independent of your health plan. The behavioral health advocate is a person who has had behavioral health services, or a person whose family member has had behavioral health services.
The behavioral health advocate can listen and learn about any problems you may have with the behavioral health system. They can serve as an advocate to help solve your problem or complaint, help you file a complaint, grievance, administrative hearing, and/or appeal; and help with navigating the behavioral health system. Behavioral advocates can inform people of behavioral health voluntary and involuntary rights of adults and children. They can also help with completing a Mental Health Advance Directive.
You should contact your regional behavioral health advocate if you have any concerns about the services you are receiving, you think your rights have been violated, you do not agree with a decision that affects your services, you need information finding a behavioral health provider, or you need assistance and are unsure who to call.
